The United Nations estimates that over four million people have been displaced by the ongoing conflict in Syria. As people flee to seek refuge and reestablish their lives across Europe and other points on the globe, soccer fans around the world have shown their support with “Refugees Welcome” banners in stadiums. Furthermore, various clubs, federations, and governing bodies have made large financial pledges to refugee aid efforts.

Reactions to the public displays have been largely positive, but there has been some resistance.
